Letter to The Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP

Ruth Cadbury MP

Dear Dominic,

I’m writing to you about the shocking shooting and killing of peaceful protestors in
Lagos earlier this week.

As you know there are widespread reports that a number of peaceful protests were
killed by Nigerian security forces in Lagos. This had come after weeks of protests
against corruption and police brutality.

While I see that you and the FCO have issued a short statement on the issue I strongly
urge you to both raise this issue at the highest levels with the Nigerian Government
and to also use the UK’s voice in multilateral institutions to condemn this attack and
call for an independent investigation into this and the wider pattern of attacks against
those protesting.

In the past two days alone I’ve had a number of constituents contact me directly about
this awful incident. I know that they want to see the UK show strong and clear
international leadership on this extremely important issue.

I look forward to hearing from you with reassurances I can provide my constituents
about the urgent steps that yourself, the FCO and UK Government are taking on this
issue.

Yours sincerely
