Today, two local students joined Ruth Cadbury MP in parliament to mark international women’s day.
They had a packed agenda including a tour of number ten Downing Street and even had the opportunity to switch roles with the women and equalities select committee and put the members of parliament on the witness table!
Later in the day, Ruth Cadbury participated in the International Women’s Day debate in the chamber and referenced local Chiswick business, Fashionizer, praising their innovative working style where employees are allowed to work flexible hours. She pointed out that this not only allows employees to have a good work-life balance but results in committed and hardworking employees who are hugely beneficial to the company.

‘International Women’s Day is such an important day in the year. It is a day to reflect on the achievements of the women who came before us, celebrate the work that women do in society and also highlight the particular disadvantages that women face in society.
I chose to speak about women in the workplace because although many rights are enshrined in law, women still face barriers in society due to rigid cultures which don’t allow any flexibility or enable mothers to return to work, participate in the job market and contribute to our national and local economies.’
