Ruth Cadbury MP has backed a new programme by the Government to deliver a warm homes plan, which will work to save money on energy bills and deliver warmer, cleaner energy to heat homes.
Under plans announced by the Government, up to 300,000 households across the UK will benefit from home upgrades in the next year, with new funding to help households of every kind take up measures that can help save money on their bills and deliver cleaner heating. This includes grants for heat pumps, support for renters and low-income households, and new investment in British manufacturing.
Homeowners in England and Wales will get a £7,500 heat pump grant through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and social housing residents, lower income householders and renters are going to receive funded energy efficiency upgrades - including insulation and low-carbon heating - through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund and Warm Homes: Local Grant respectively. Working alongside the Governments mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower, the Warm Homes Plan will ensure millions more households benefit from homegrown energy delivered by every new turbine, solar panel or pylon built on the path to energy independence.
This comes on the back of work by Hounslow Council to support local projects to improve home insultation and clean energy with £8 million being invested to improve the energy efficiency of council housing, and the Community Energy Fund which provided financial support to community-based projects that reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Commenting in support of the Governments plans Ruth Cadbury MP said,
“Everybody in our country deserves the right to live in a home that is well insulated, safe and where their bills are affordable. I know from listening to people locally that energy bills have been too high over the last decade and many people are still being hit by the cost-of-living crisis. ‘‘That’s why I’m backing the Government’s plans to give families the support they need to upgrade their homes and bring bills down for good.’’
‘‘I’ve long campaigned around the poor levels of insulation in homes in the UK, which leak three times as much heat as those in Europe. Home upgrades such as these help deliver well paid jobs, bring investment into the UK and help to lower bills. It’s a win win for people locally and I’m pleased to back these plans. Alongside investment in clean and green energy such as wind farms I’m pleased the Government are taking action to tackle the climate crisis and lower energy bills.’’
Minister for Energy Consumers Miatta Fahnbulleh said:
“The idea at the heart of our Warm Homes Plan is a simple one – all families deserve the security of a home they can afford to heat.’’
“But for too long, that has been out of reach for far too many people who have been left with draughty homes and sky-high bills. That is why we are taking immediate action today to make cleaner heating available to more households.’’
“This follows our plan to lift over one million households out of fuel poverty by consulting on boosting minimum energy efficiency standards for all renters by 2030, delivering warmer homes and cheaper bills."
