Ruth Cadbury MP has marked national volunteers week by praising the 'tireless work' of local residents across Hounslow during this 'extremely difficult and challenging time'. Volunteers week runs from the 1st June until the 7th June and is a chance to thank and celebrate the work done by charities, volunteers and their supporters.Speaking to mark the week Ruth said,''Here in Hounslow we're lucky to have so many people who go above and beyond to help their local community. With the Coronavirus pandemic the need for local volunteers and help has skyrocketed but I know that local people have met this challenge by helping out even more.Whether it's those helping to cook free hot meals at the Open Kitchen, those assisting vulnerable people with support or those helping to keep in touch with those shielding at home I know that there's been so much amazing work locally going on.On top of that we've had mutual aid groups set up who've been helping fetch prescriptions, get groceries and offer support to local residents. With so many people feeling anxious about paying the bills and protecting their health I know that the help and support offered has made a huge difference during this extremely difficult and challenging time. It's been extremely reassuring that as the lockdown has begun to ease people are continuing to volunteer and help out locally.''
