On Wednesday 11th May Ruth Cadbury MP visited Salopian Gardens in Isleworth to meet with NHS staff, volunteers, and local residents for an outdoor garden event to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. This event was organised by West London NHS trust to bring staff, service users and volunteers together for tea, cake and a chat and to talk about how gardening is great for improving our well-being. The Salopian Garden is a community project on London Road Isleworth, run by the charity Cultivate London.

Speaking in full after her visit Ruth said,

‘‘It was great to meet with everyone and to hear about the mental health support available for people across Hounslow, and how projects like Salopian Garden help people feel good, particularly if they have struggled with mental illness. The garden provides a safe and calm environment; just as all outdoor and green spaces do. They play a huge role in helping with our mental health, and this garden is a brilliant example of open spaces serving the community.

With this week being Mental Health Awareness Week it’s so important that we do more to tackle the stigma around Mental Health. The pandemic has had a huge impact on peoples mental health and has meant that the backlog for assessments and treatments have only got longer.

That’s why I will continue to campaign for the Government to take much needed action to ensure that everyone can access the support they need.’’
