We need a 'Back to Work Budget' for Hounslow

Submitted by admin on

Ruth Cadbury MP has called on the Government to take urgent action and launch a Back to Work Budget for Hounslow, West London and the UK.Speaking about these figures Ruth said,"We're facing a jobs crisis here in West London and many of those furloughed are at risk of losing their jobs rather than going back to work. The Covid crisis has particularly hit jobs for borough residents as so many work in sectors hardest hit ; at Heathrow, in hospitality and in the creative sectors.I am concerned that the slow  and muddled health response is now being followed by a slow and muddled response to saving jobs. The Government cannot afford to delay its next full budget until after the summer and must urgently bring forward a Back to Work Budget to protect jobs and livelihoods here in Hounslow and across London. The government must also ensure the vital support provided by the Job Retention Scheme and Self-Employed Support Scheme are not withdrawn too soon. They also need to fix the gaps in these support schemes which have prevented many people from being able to access support.West London and Hounslow will be disproportionally hit by this jobs crisis; especially as it is estimated that up to 1 in 3 households rely on Heathrow airport and the wider supply chain for work.I have been urging the Government to step in and act for weeks and weeks- they should start by bringing forward a Back to Work Budget.''
