Ruth raises serious concerns over local cladding & leaseholder issues.

Ruth Cadbury MP has written to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to raise a number of serious concerns and issues regarding residential buildings, cladding and fire safety.

In a letter to the Secretary of State Robert Jenrick Ruth posed a number of questions on behalf of local constituents who have been affected, including those who’ve been unable to sell their homes.

Speaking in full afterwards Ruth said,

‘‘In the past few weeks and months I’ve had more and more local residents contact me about the huge anxiety they’ve been put under as a result of a number of issues relating to cladding and building safety.

One major issue has been that many leaseholders are trapped in their homes as they’re unable to sell them due to the delays in granting EWS1 forms, a new requirement for fire safety. They feel rightly anxious as they don’t know whether their home is safe and they don’t know when they’ll be able to sell.

I fully support all efforts to improve our fire safety standards but it’s clear that we do not have enough qualified professionals to carry out these checks. I have raised this previously with the Government and have urged them to take action to tackle these delays.

I know from listening to local leaseholders how difficult it has been for them and that they feel they’ve been ignored and forgotten by the Government.

I want to reassure local residents that I will keep raising these issues and will keep calling for the Government to act.’’
